About the Band
If you are considering hiring Hot Club '42 for your wedding or corporate event, you would probably like to know a little more about us.
Here is a little bit about each member of the band, our influences and our passions...
Davey
A guitarist versed in the blues and folk tradition, in recent years Davey has turned professional and developed an interest in jazz from the early swing era.
Main influences: Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian.
Ian
A brilliantly versatile musician and professional music teacher, Ian is the main soloist in the band.
On clarinet or sax, he can be relied upon to take the lead and deliver his own unique character to the sound of Hot Club '42.
Main influences: Sidney Bechet, Hubert Rostaing, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins and Benny Goodman.
Nicky
As well as fronting Hot Club '42, Nicky is an accomplished session singer supporting the many artists who have recorded at her local studios in Banbury.
She's inspired and fascinated by the stories and the passion that drove the early Blues Women who stood up with the Jazz Bands of the 1930's.
Main influences: Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, Neil Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the harmonies of Supertramp.
Jonathan
Jonathan caught the Jazz bug at Cheltenham Jazz Festival and has played with many great artists since.
As well as providing beautifully authentic Gypsy Jazz guitar for Hot Club '42, Jonathan has a wealth of experience as a solo performer.
Main influences: Richard Thompson, Bert Jansch, Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler.
Simon
Simon first played in a band on percussion and flute. Sliding down the scale, he took up the double bass late in life, playing mainly swing jazz and bluegrass.
Bass heroes range widely, including: Paul Chambers, Todd Phillips, Dave O'Brien, David Piltch, Jake Irwin, Norman Watt-Roy, and James Jamerson.
